Manuka Tennis Club – Battery Storage Project

The ACT Government’s Next Generation Energy Storage program (Next Gen) supports the development of an energy storage industry in the ACT, along with research and training. The battery rebate is $3,500 (excluding GST).

With the help of the Next Gen program, many homeowners and businesses are now able to take the next step towards self-sufficiency by investing in battery storage. Under the NextGen program, LECA installed a 12.58 kW Solar PV System with a 10.3kWh battery at the Manuka Tennis Club in Canberra. We caught up with the president of the club, Mr. William Brummitt, around three months after the installation, to hear first-hand on how the System was working so far, and to gain more insight into his thoughts about the club going Solar.

• When asked about how the electricity bills were looking now, compared to before the installation, William said that he expects significant savings on the Club`s next electricity bill, which will allow them to put back the savings into their assets, like the tennis courts.
• Regarding the Next Gen program by the ACT Government and its impact on getting a Battery, William emphasised that the Rebate provided through the program was an important part of the Club’s decision to get a Solar and Battery System installed. The lights on the Tennis court at night consume the most electricity, and with the help of the Battery, the club has been able to completely power the lights using the energy saved during the day.
• William went on to say that his fellow members of the club have been quite impressed with the installation of the System as well, and the club is proud to be Canberra’s first carbon-neutral Tennis Club. William further stated that he would definitely recommend other similar clubs in the ACT to look into switching to renewable energy.

By switching to Solar with a Battery, consumers not only reduce their energy bills but also actively participate in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting the ACT’s 100% renewable electricity commitment.
