The cost of switching to solar in Australia has been decreasing exponentially in the past decade, with the help of solar rebates, subsidies and incentives from the federal and some state/territory governments. Listed below are the current offers available in the ACT, NSW, VIC, and SA.

There are multiple rebates, subsidies, and incentives available across Australia, that will help you invest in a Solar PV and Batter Storage system. Read on to see all the available options as of 2022.

ACT

  • National solar subsidy: This subsidy is worth (for example) around $3,000 off the up-front price of a 6.6kW solar power system, which would be factored into pricing you see advertised in the ACT.
  • Solar For Low Income Households Program: This program offers eligible households a rebate of up to 50% (capped at $2,500) on a rooftop solar system, plus an interest-free loan over three years to cover the remainder.
  • Sustainable Household Scheme: The Scheme provides zero-interest loans to help with the costs of energy-efficient upgrades, including solar panels and batteries. Loans from $2,000 to $15,000 are available, to be repaid over up to 10 years.
  • Feed-in tariff: You will likely be generating surplus solar energy at times beyond what your home needs, which you can send back to the electricity grid for a feed-in tariff depending on your energy retailer.

NSW

  • National solar subsidy: This subsidy is worth (for example) around $3,000 off the up-front price of a 6.6kW solar power system, which would be factored into pricing you see advertised in NSW.
  • Empowering Homes scheme (solar and battery subsidy): NSW homeowners in eligible postcodes can access interest-free loans of up to $14,000 for a solar and battery system, and up to $9,000 for a battery retrofit system.
  • Solar For Low Income Households: In exchange for agreeing to forfeit the Low-Income Household Rebate for ten years, qualifying households can get a free 3-kilowatt solar system.
  • Feed-in tariff: You will likely be generating surplus solar energy at times beyond what your home needs, which you can send back to the electricity grid for a feed-in tariff depending on your energy retailer

VIC

  • National solar subsidy: This incentive significantly reduces the cost of buying solar panels. For example, in the case of a 6.6kW system installation in Melbourne, it can provide (approximately) a $2,600 discount in 2022. This subsidy is already factored into pricing you may see advertised for systems in Victoria.
  • Victorian solar panel rebate: A subsidy of up to $1,400 is available towards purchasing a solar power system, and yes, you can also take advantage of the national solar rebate. You can further take an interest-free loan of $1400 o reduce your costs.
  • Solar For Small Business: This covers up to 50 percent of the cost of installing a rooftop solar system, up to a maximum “rebate” of $3,500.
  • Solar Victoria’s Solar Battery program: This provides interest-free loans of up to $8,800 to 4,500 households, the loan repayments are a four-year commitment of $183.34 each month. Unlike the previous battery rebates, loans will also be offered to customers who have already received Solar Panels (PV) and/or Hot Water rebates.
  • Feed-in tariff: You will likely be generating surplus solar energy at times beyond what your home needs, which you can send back to the electricity grid for a feed-in tariff depending on your energy retailer.

SA

  • National solar subsidy: This subsidy is worth (for example) around $3,000 off the up-front price of a 6.6kW solar power system, which would be factored into pricing you see advertised in SA.
  • Feed-in tariff: You will likely be generating surplus solar energy at times beyond what your home needs, which you can send back to the electricity grid for a feed-in tariff depending on your energy retailer.

With the multiple federal and state rebates available for rooftop solar and battery storage across Australia, you can significantly reduce the cost of purchasing and installing a System that will suit your energy needs, while helping you switch to a cleaner and better source of power.
